All 41 Republican Senators sign and send a letter to Majority Leader Reid, on reconciliation

The Republicans told Reid they will block any provisions in the Democrats' health care bill that violate the reconciliation rule written by Senator Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia). The use of reconciliation to create policy is prohibited. It was intended for budget-related matters only.

Here is a portion of what the Republicans told Reid, via the Washington Examiner:

"As it takes 60 votes to waive the Byrd Rule, we can ensure that any provision that trips the Byrd Rule will be stripped from the bill, which will require that the bill be sent back to the House for further consideration and additional votes," the letter states.

The letter was signed by all 41 Republicans, who called on Reid to drop the current plan in favor of a bipartisan "step-by-step approach" to cutting health care costs.

A "step-by-step approach" is what a majority of the American people say they want, according to every major poll.
