Stupak's health care vote the final straw for his constituents

Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Michigan) has chosen to retire rather than face voters in the 2010 midterm elections. His health care vote was not particularly popular in his politically conservative district, as reported by the Washington Post:

Stupak's announcement Friday that he would not seek reelection rippled across Washington, with Democrats expressing anxiety that his politically conservative district had become a ripe opportunity for Republicans in their bid to regain a majority in the House.
