Republicans will keep up the pressure on White House job offers

Congressmen Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Darrell Issa (R-California) are planning to keep the pressure on the Democrats to look into the job offers made by the White House to two Senate candidates in Democratic primaries. Democratic candidates Andrew Romanoff of Colorado and Joe Sestak of Pennsylvania have both said they were offered jobs by the White House to get out of the primaries.

Both Smith and Issa have said they will use the tools available to them, as the ranking members of two Congressional committees, to force the Democrats to hold hearings on the issue. In the months leading up to the 2010 midterm elections, the Democrats will be hoping this issue goes away, as reported in the Hill:

The summer before a critical election, Democratic leaders and chairmen will likely prevent any committee action aimed at forcing cooperation from the Obama administration, but Issa and Smith have a number of parliamentary weapons at their disposal that could continue to fan the political fires over the growing controversy.
