Squabbling Democrats can't hide their disarray

President Obama is set to campaign for Senator Harry Reid in Nevada. We saw the President campaign for candidates in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, and he was unable to help any of them. The President's declining popularity is causing some Democrats to begin distancing themselves from the White House.

From Politico:

The tension between the president’s declining popularity and Democratic fortunes are starting to play out more publicly.

Some Democrats on the Hill complain that the White House is trying to position itself in opposition to Congress. And some Democratic incumbents are racing to define themselves in opposition to the White House. Squabbling in Washington only sends the picture that the party can’t capitalize on its majority.

“Whenever a party is sinking or having problems, then signs of disarray show up,” said Gary Jacobson, professor of politics at the University of California, San Diego and a respected scholar on House elections. “I think that’s more a sign than a cause of anything. If the economy doesn’t turn around and Obama’s numbers don’t go up a bit, then Democrats really ought to be worried."
